Scotland must not be an afterthought in high speed rail developments - McInnes12.01.10am GMT Fri 16th Jan 2009 Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes has warned that Scotland must not be an afterthought in proposed developments for high speed rail in the UK. The UK Government is proposing to set up a new company, called High Speed 2, to develop high speed rail links throughout the UK. As a first stage, the company is planning to develop high speed rail lines from London to the West Midlands. Commenting, Mrs McInnes said: “Scotland must not be an afterthought in any high speed rail developments. The UK Government must be visionary and include Scotland in any high speed rail plans right from the start. “Improving rail connections between Scotland and the rest of the UK is vital for boosting the economy and tackling climate change.”
