Recession and Government inaction cause housing decline

11.03.30am GMT Fri 27th Nov 2009

Commenting on housing statistics released by the Scottish Government today showing a 17% drop in the number of homes completed, Liberal Democrat Housing spokesman Jamie Stone MSP said:

“This is seriously bad news which unfortunately demonstrates two things.

“Labour’s recession is hitting the building trade and any Government plans to increase the number of homes.

“Secondly, much vaunted Scottish Government measures to support the building industry in their time of need are simply not working.

“Now is the time to dump expensive vanity projects such as the £12 million referendum and plough the money where it is needed today.

“Scots facing homelessness will look at these figures and judge the Scottish Government accordingly.”
