Purvis: Veterans must be given same care as in England

The Scottish government has announced that it will give £80,000 to fund veteran’s projects, including supported accommodation and outdoor pursuits to help veterans regain physical and mental strength. Brown: Never any justification for domestic abuse

More than 2,000 people were arrested during a two-month crackdown on domestic violence, Scotland's biggest police force said today. During an eight-week campaign, Strathclyde Police officers attended 3,961 incidents of domestic abuse, though that was a 24% drop in the number of such incidents reported to police in the same two-month period a year ago. Brown: Reoffending figures appallingly high

Scottish Government statistics released today show that the numbers of convicted criminals that go on to re-offend are shockingly high. 36% of individuals sentenced to custody (for their most recent conviction) in 2008-09, for a crime or relevant offence, had more than 10 previous convictions between 1999-00 and 2008-09.

Lord Taverne requests House of Lords investigate Ashcroft

The Honours Scrutiny Committee withdrew its objections to Lord Ashcroft becoming a peer on the basis of his clear undertaking that he would “take up permanent residence in the United Kingdom again before the end of the calendar year”.

Tory social care ‘poll tax’ will only help the wealthy says Lamb

The figures, released ahead of tomorrow’s cross-party social care conference, undermine Conservative claims that their plans would enable older people to pass their homes on to their children as two thirds of pensioner households would have to sell or release equity from their homes to pay for the private insurance scheme.

Launch of the Campaign for Body Confidence

A panel of experts including fashion writer and broadcaster Caryn Franklin and author of Fat is a Feminist Issue, Susie Orbach, will debate measures to tackle the harm caused by pressure to conform to unrealistic and unhealthy body image ideals.
